Getting Around (Local)

Public Transportation

If you want to visit Near Northeast, here are the main public transportation options. The Metro is a short walk from my block.

Getting There and Away (From outside the DC Metro)

Airports

• Washington National Airport is easily accessible from the DC Metro. Board a Yellow line train towards Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center. Change to a Red Line train at Gallery Place/Chinatown towards Silver Spring or Glenmont
• Using MARC trains; you can reach Baltimore-Washington International airport (BWI) during weekdays. During the weekend and after hours, there is an bus to and from Greenbelt (Green Line).
• "Washington" Dulles International Airport offers a Metro Bus to L'Enfant Plaza. Board a Yellow line train towards Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center. Change to a Red Line train at Gallery Place/Chinatown towards Silver Spring or Glenmont.

Trains

• Union Station (Red Line) which is a scenic site with shopping and a transportation hub for Amtrak and WMATA. There are weekday options if you wish to travel to and from Baltimore, Fredericksburg, or Manassas. Union Station has been named as a "Great Public Space" by the Project for Public Spaces.

Buses

• "Greyhound" Bus Terminal @ 1005 1st ST NE which also offers Peter Pan busses as well.
• Discount buses are also available from Chinatown to Philadelphia and NYC. Be aware, it's an experience.

Shopping

• A Litteri @ 517-519 Morse ST NE, Washington, DC 20002 which offers an unrivaled selection of Italian food and amazingly cheap, high quality wines and deli selections. Worth the trek from the suburbs on it's own.
• Adobe Design Center @ 606-C Rhode Island Ave NE
• DC Farmers Market @1309 5th ST NE, which is a bit rougher around the edges than Eastern Market but has a wider selection and doesn't have the markup. It has been named as a "Great Public Space" by the Project for Public Spaces.
• H Street Fresh Farm Market @ 600 block of H Street NE, which during the summer offers some excellent Saturday options
• United Cash & Carry @ 400 Florida Ave NE, which offers essentially everything a quick shop would need at wholesale prices during its limited hours.

Bars and Clubs

• Bud's @ 514 Morse NE (funk, r&b)
• Dream @ 1350 Okie ST NE
• Fur Night Club @ 33 Patterson ST NE, that offers Glow (Techno) on Saturdays. Watch out for the crazy covers on tables in the VIP rooms.
• Mirrors (salsa saturdays) @ 33 New York Avenue NE

• Brentwood Park @ 600 Brentwood Park NE
• Franciscan Monastery @ 1400 Quincy ST NE which offers tours
• IKG Cultural Resource Center @ 421 H ST NE
• Gallaudet University @ 800 Florida Ave NE which is a world leading University "for the deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students". It also offers Elstad Auditorium home to theater, dance, and films.
• Uline Arena (Washington Coliseum) @ 2nd and 3rd St NE between L & M ST which once housed sports, the Beatles in their first American concert, and has been turned into a "scenic" parking lot.
